Mental Health & Adoption

is a short, online, self paced course

that focuses on developing an awareness of the seriousness of mental health difficulties as they relate to adoptees; and how a child’s environment affects their development in all spheres. It then helps you discover ideas for what you can do as parents of adoptees to support them. Using the latest, evidence-based research, Mental Health & Adoption helps equip you to prepare for potential challenges ahead and support your child. This online course is a recording of a recent live event and includes interactive case studies and reflection exercises to help you go through the material in an experiential way.

Who is Arise?

Arise Family is an NGO based in Cape Town, South Africa. We believe that every child is created to be part of a thriving family. And our goal is to support families to thrive, however they are formed. In practice, this means we use strength-based and resilience building interventions as we work with children, parents and caregivers to strengthen and equip families so that they can be a place where children feel safe, loved, and find a sense of belonging.
Arise has over 15 years’ experience in programme development, facilitation, family strengthening and adoption support. Our team consists of psychologists, social workers and play therapists; many of whom are adoptive parents. We bring our education, experience, and skills to provide evidence based and strength building resources to South Africa in ways that promote growth and resilience.
