Arise Family is an NGO based in Cape Town, South Africa.

We believe that every child is created to be part of a thriving family. And our goal is to support families to thrive, however they are formed. In practice, this means we use strength-based and resilience building interventions as we work with children, parents and caregivers to strengthen and equip families so that they can be a place where children feel safe, loved, and find a sense of belonging.

Arise has over 14 years’ experience in programme development, facilitation and adoption support. Our team consists of psychologists, social workers and play therapists; many of whom are also adoptive parents. We bring our education, experience, and skills to provide evidence based and strength building resources to South Africa in ways that promote growth and resilience. LIFE STORY WORK is a stepping stone into helping your family thrive!

What others have to say about Life Story Work

Testamonials from other Adoptive Parents

“The Arise workshop left me with a different perspective on adoption. One which ensure that the child stays centred and practically helped me understand how to do this. I appreciated the need to recognise what might be triggering for Adoptive families and that for a child to stay centred in adoption work, we need to do our own work.”

Life Story Workshop Participant 2022

“I learn through this workshop that openness and honesty makes a difference, as well as recognising that adoption provides a different life, not necessarily a better life. It was comforting as well as informative to understand the fullness of what life story work is and where it starts – from the very beginning!”
