Why is Helping Families in Crisis is needed?

In the midst of crisis, caregivers and parents are often left floundering, unable to access support and not knowing what to do to support their children, especially in the face of ongoing trauma. Whether related to community violence, political unrest, natural disasters or other crises; the skills we need to build resilience and cope with the situation at hand remain the same. These are the skills that Helping Families in Crisis is built around.

Helping Families in Crisis is a vital resource for caregivers navigating the challenges of supporting children affected by trauma. Children in crisis need calm, compassionate care, and this course provides practical, easy-to-use tools to help caregivers create safety, build emotional resilience, and foster healing. By equipping caregivers with effective strategies, the course empowers families to move toward hope and stability during difficult times. Whether you're a parent, teacher, or professional, this course offers the knowledge and skills to make a meaningful difference in a child’s life.

Who is Arise?

Arise Family is an NGO based in Cape Town, South Africa. We believe that every child is created to be part of a thriving family. And our goal is to support families to thrive, however they are formed. In practice, this means we use strength-based and resilience building interventions as we work with children, parents and caregivers to strengthen and equip families so that they can be a place where children feel safe, loved, and find a sense of belonging.
Arise has over 15 years’ experience in programme development, facilitation, family strengthening and adoption support. Our team consists of psychologists, social workers and play therapists; many of whom are adoptive parents. We bring our education, experience, and skills to provide evidence based and strength building resources to South Africa in ways that promote growth and resilience. Over the years, we have seen the need for equipping helpers and community workers develop some of the skills we use in working with families to enhance their own work. It is out of this need that we developed Helping Families in Crisis, to support one of our partner organisations experiencing violence in Lebanon.
